Rebuilding Together Construction Project
Irwin Contracting is continuing to work closely with Rebuilding Together Long Island, an organization designed to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners. A grant was given to Rebuilding Together by the Red Cross this past August to fund Super Storm Sandy repairs and rebuilding efforts in New York and New Jersey. Our office and field staff have been honored to be involved in the rebuilding that’s been made possible on Long Island by this grant. So far Irwin has worked on at least two-dozen homes, in hard-hit towns such as Lindenhurst, Island Park, East Meadow, Baldwin, and Bay Shore. Repairs have ranged from replacement boilers, decks, and windows, to fully renovated entire kitchens and bathrooms. Current Rebuilding Together jobs under way are in Lindenhurst and Bay Shore.

Get ready, foodies. Smart Foods Café is on the way! Irwin is excited to be a part of this local, healthy hot spot, coming soon to Dix Hills, NY. First on the agenda is excavation and some parking lot maintenance – then the fun part: building out the new restaurant space. Located on Jericho Turnpike, this new addition to the neighborhood is sure to be a hit. We can’t wait to enjoy the finished product.

Stay tuned for more.

In an effort to provide more affordable housing options in the Bay Shore area, as well as to revitalize and improve on the appearance of this area, the Town of Islip Housing Development Corp. and Islip Housing Authority have worked with Bohemia based Architect Gary J. Bruno to design the new housing building. Designed to have a more suburban feel, this three unit complex has the appearance of a single family home, rather than a large apartment complex, in order to fit in properly in its surroundings. Irwin Contracting has been contracted for the construction of the apartment building.

So far, excavation is completed. The land has been cleared and graded, plumbing has begun and we’re gearing up to start framing next.

The project will consist of two, two-bedroom units and one, three-bedroom handicapped accessible unit. All fully finished units will come complete with beautiful porcelain bathroom and kitchen tile, maple kitchen cabinets, sliding padio doors, dual insulated glass vinyl windows, and a fire sprinkler system. Outside, we will finish the job off with landscaping, to include a built up berm, and two rows of 7-8 foot tall evergreens on either side of the structure. An irrigation system and fencing will be installed as well.

Make A Wish Bouquet of Wishes 2014

We attended the annual Suffolk County Make-a-Wish Foundation’s, “Bouquet of Wishes” at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook last night. What a beautiful and touching event! Put this on your calendars for next year- it’s not one to miss. Besides the people, the food, and the raffle prizes, the most enjoyable part of the evening is seeing first-hand what this wonderful organization does for children and their families. Last night, we were treated once again to an incredible experience- we watched President & CEO Karine Hollander grant a boy’s wish right in front of us, on stage. As she announced that Kyle would be flying to Colorado next week to meet his favorite lacrosse team, the doors burst open for a thrilling performance by the East Islip marching band the Stony Brook University cheerleaders (complete with the Seawolves mascot, Wolfie) of “Don’t Stop Believing”. The crowd joined in, some with pom-poms in hand to cheer Kyle on and celebrate the news. As he stood stunned on stage, Kyle said “This is AMAZING”! Another treat was a speech made by eight year old Armanie from Yaphank. This part of the evening was particularly heartfelt for our team. Armanie, who we got to meet, is a truly courageous and charismatic boy. He’s sweet and full of energy. Armanie delivered a speech to the crowd, explaining his Make a Wish experience, which was to go on a Nickelodean cruise with his family. He told us that he met the chef and made a cake, swam in the water in the Bahamas, and even held a crocodile. He also made a point to thank our President, John Irwin during the speech, for sponsoring his wish. Irwin Contracting is a long time supporter of Make a Wish, and to meet a person who you’ve touched is something very special. There were many more beautiful stories shared, and much money raised during the candle-lighting fundraiser that was held. Again, I suggest you look into this for next year; it’s a great cause and great experience. Proceeds of this fundraising event go towards granting wishes to children in Suffolk County who suffer from life-threatening medical conditions.
